What are you or what do you want?
So this is directed to two groups, for those of you who are looking for a trainer/coach in your area to train with. Also for those of you looking to get into the fitness industry or maybe already are.
So whats the difference between a trainer or coach?
Personal Trainer = Someone who works with a client to plan or implement an exercise or fitness program.
Coach = Someone who gives instruction, advice or direction.
Ok I will be out front I HATE being called a trainer, I think it has a very negative outlook that follows it. I think due to a huge part of how many bad trainers their are out there that do not really take their career seriously or lack there of one. Do not get me wrong this is not a bash the trainers speech, because I used to be one.
The thing that I always noticed that was different between me and everyone else I worked with or around is I had a different mindset. One being I did not just want to implement programs, I always felt there was a coach in me to like I said not just implement but produce, guide, teach and make a large impact on the life of everyone I came in contact with.
When you get to truly be around the two you will really see where the coach goes above and beyond where the trainer stops. I have always told my clients that I am here to not tell them what to do but teach them what to do and not to do so that someday when and if they want to go it alone they have learned more than what most trainers are doing in these gyms.
I promise this is not a bash trainers like I said I have been there before. But really scroll back up and read both of the definitions that came from Webster’s Dictionary. Then keep a conscious observation of the coachs and trainers you see online and offline.
Maybe I make sense in this maybe I do not, please comment if I do not haha. But if your looking for a trainer remember you need to choose what is best for you so look for those qualities of a coach in that trainer. If you are looking to get into the business make sure you understand the two and I would say study other coaches because those are the ones at the forefront of everything and teaching you and me how to become better coaches. Ok thats enough of this rant on my head.

Yep there is a difference, I can go work out anywhere and when it comes to some of the lifts that he has coached me on I can do them with confidence and that is something that doesent come from someone that just prescribes a scheduled routine!!
