Henry Rollins on Iron, Strength, Pain & Greatness
One of my friends and mentors Zach Even-Esh put up an AMAZING post with an article by Henry Rollins. Below is the first paragraph and then a link to Zach’s page with the rest of the article. I really recommend taking a few minutes to read this, simply amazing.
I believe that the definition of definition is reinvention. To not be like your parents. To not be like your friends. To be yourself.
Completely.
When I was young I had no sense of myself. All I was, was a product of all the fear and humiliation I suffered. Fear of my parents. The humiliation of teachers calling me “garbage can” and telling me I’d be mowing lawns for a living. And the very real terror of my fellow students.
I was threatened and beaten up for the color of my skin and my size. I was skinny and clumsy, and when others would tease me I didn’t run home crying, wondering why. I knew all too well. I was there to be antagonized. In sports I was laughed at. A spaz. I was pretty good at boxing but only because the rage that filled my every waking moment made me wild and unpredictable. I fought with some strange fury. The other boys thought I was crazy.

I want to hear why you train and what the iron means to you so leave your comments below.

Matt,
You have one of the best logos anywhere. I dabble in drawing [just for my own insanity]and I find your logo inspiring. Great stuff.
I read the article on Zach’s site today also. I am a high school football/strength coach and I find it interesting how many young men thru the years have found their identify and image through the iron. Keep up the good work.

I was just telling a friend today, that working with weights connects me to my body in a way that nothing else really does. I love the way it feels when you push yourself and you actually feel a good kind of pain the next day from muscle exertion. There is nothing like it. I have scoliosis and metal rods attached to my spine, so even though I can’t lift alot, I keep chipping away at the plates, and ever week I get a little better and the strength comes.
Love the article too. Especially this quote:
“Muscle mass does not always equal strength. Strength is kindness and sensitivity. Strength is understanding that your power is both physical and emotional. That it comes from the body and the mind. And the heart.”
Thanks for sharing this!

Go isn’t a complete sentence. It is not even a clause on it’s own. We take it as such, because everyone says it.

Yup, couldn’t agree more. And I’d like to add that you’ve got a great colour scheme on your site, I suffer with colour blindness and many webmasters don’t give us a second thought!

Hi - very great web site you have created. I enjoyed reading this posting. I did want to write a remark to tell you that the design of this site is very aesthetically delightful. I used to be a graphic designer, now I am a copy editor in chief for a merchandising firm. I have always enjoyed functioning with information processing systems and am attempting to learn code in my free time (which there is never enough of lol).

Thanks for writing about this. There’s a bunch of good tech information on the internet. You’ve got a lot of that info here on your site. I’m impressed - I try to keep a couple blogs fairly ongoing, but it’s a struggle sometimes. You’ve done a big job with this one. How do you do it?
February 8th, 2010 at 4:34 pm
Good blog. I got a lot of great info. I’ve been following this technology for awhile. It’s interesting how it keeps changing, yet some of the core factors stay the same. Have you seen much change since Google made their most recent acquisition in the area?

OP: I might be slow (lord knows I have been told lol) but that made absolutely no sense…

Great article. There’s a lot of good information here, though I did want to let you know something - I am running Redhat with the latest beta of Firefox, and the layout of your blog is kind of quirky for me. I can understand the articles, but the navigation doesn’t work so good.

I am very impressed with the article I have just read. I wish the author of bodysynergytraining.com can continue to provide so much practical information and unforgettable experience to bodysynergytraining.com readers. There is not much to say except the following universal truth: If you see a cactus falling, DO NOT catch it!!! I will be back.

This is interesting…I’d like to know what you would recommend in my situation. Right now I’m aiming to shed around 20 pounds and add muscle mass to my frame. But there are so many different “systems” out there and I have no idea which one to trust. Can somebody point me towards a good plan for burning fat and packing on muscle?

I’m working on getting six pack abs right now and it’s not easy. Does anyone here have some tips as far as a good six pack abs diet? My trainer says that egg whites, oatmeal, salmon, blueberries and broccoli are all important to incorporate into your diet…are there any other foods I should include?
